Lancaster, Texas

Lancaster is located in "The Best Southwest" area of Dallas county. Its neighbors are Desoto, Duncanville, and Cedar Hill. It's about 17 miles south of Dallas, and this trip will take you about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. The population of Lancaster is about 35,000. The racial makeup of Lancaster is quite unique in Texas, in that African Americans outnumber Whites; African Americans are about 50% of the population, while Whites are about 35%. Blacks feature predominantly in the proud history of the town. There are also a good number of Hispanics (about 8%). The average income for a household is about $45,000. For a family, it's closer to $50,000. Lancaster is bordered by the main transportation routes of highways 20, 35, and 45. 35 and 45 will both take you north into Dallas or to points south, while 20 runs west to neighboring Duncanville, east to the eastern suburb of Balch Springs, or greater points onward from there.

Apartments and Neighborhoods in Lancaster

Most apartments tend to be located on the west side of Lancaster, closer to Highway 35 than 45. Your choices include Portafino on Bluegrove Road, Pleasant Run on Pleasant Run Road, and Creekwood Place and Rolling Hills Place on Rolling Hills Place Road. You might also try the bordering communities of Wilmer or Desoto.

Things to Do in Lancaster

Like many communities, Lancaster has a golf course (Country View Golf Course), a par-71. The great thing about Lancaster's golf course, however, is that unlike many across the country, it is public, and is actually the only public course in southern Dallas county. A recreation center, which the city invested a whopping 9 million dollars in, features the Lancaster Community Park, an aerobics room, caterer's kitchen and dining facility, youth area, activities area, classroom, indoor water park, two pools, and a pool party area!

Lancaster also features a nice historic town square, that offers a nice variety of truly unique shops, selling clothes, gifts with a Texas theme, cookies, cakes, antiques, etc. such as Hardscrabble Antiques, Luanna's, Corah's Boutique, and the Lovin' Oven. There are also a number of restaurants, that serve Tex-Mex, soul and southern food, and other culinary temptations.

Lancaster's main park has a trail with a footbridge, a pier for fishing, picnic shelters, playgrounds, basketball courts, and a pond.
