Conroe, Texas
Conroe has a population of about 50,000, and is located in Montgomery County,
Texas, about 40 miles North of Houston on Interstate 45. Although it's a little
far for a daily commute, which would take up to two hours to get to downtown or
longer for South of Houston, it is increasingly becoming the choice of suburbs
for residents who are priced out of anything closer, or who wish to get further
out in the country. The median family income in Conroe is about 40,000.
Apartments and Neighborhoods in Conroe
There are a variety of choices for rentals in Conroe, and they are spread out
throughout the area. One thing to consider if you are looking at first-floor
apartments in the low-lying areas is the flood factor. It's not completely
unknown for Conroe to have some flooding. For the quickest jump onto I-45, which
will lead you South into Houston, try one of the rental complexes close to 45,
such as Hollow Creek on Hickerson Street, Treehouse on Wilson Road, or Park
Village on Frazier Street. For quieter digs, try a more out-of-the-way location,
such as Tanglewood on Odd Fellow Street, Redford Park on Gladstell Road, or
Riverwalk on Scarborough Drive.
Things to Do in Conroe
Conroe Lake is a big attraction here, and you'll have the jump start on day
trippers from Houston coming out to enjoy fishing, picnicking, swimming, and
boating. Sam Houston National Forest is just a short drive north, and offers a
huge forest that you can most definitely get lost in. It's got about 130 miles
of trails and campsites. Houstonians who have lived in the concrete jungle
for so long they no longer remember what it is come up to Conroe on the weekends
to shop at the Conroe outlets. A special annual event is the Montgomery County
fair.
