Hillsboro is about 20 miles west of Portland, Oregon. The drive from Hillsboro to Portland takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. Temperatures throughout the year in this area are affected by the vicinity to the ocean, but range from about 30 degrees Fahreneheit to 80. The population is about 88,000. It is a mostly White community (70%), but has some good diversity, with an almost 20% Hispanic population, and a number of Asian and American Indian faces. Economically, Hillsboro is generally middle class, with an average household income of about $50,000; for families it's about $57,000. Hillsboro is on one of the MAX light rail lines into Portland, so public transportation is accessible and a good option.

Hillsboro is also home to "Silocon Forest" area, a home to a number of technology companies campuses, including Sun Microsystems, Yahoo!, and TriQuint Semiconductor.
