Prairie Village, Kansas

Located in Johnson County in the northeast corner of Kansas, Prairie Village is an idyllic town of about 22,000 people and a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Prairie Village was started in 1941 by developer J.C. Nichols and named as "the best planned community in America" in 1949 by the National Association of Home Builders.

Although winning an award of that sort in the late '40s certainly brings to mind images of a stilted, monochromatic town like the one in the movie Pleasantville, one shouldn't be so quick to dismiss this lovely little community. Satisfaction with Prairie Village as a home and place of residence apparently hasn't faded since the 1950s, and Prairie Village citizens often call their home "Perfect Village."

It's not surprising that horse trainers would want to live in Prairie Village - after all, there are traces of the historic Santa Fe Trail in Prairie Village. The Santa Fe Trail was a major route of horse-driven travel in the 19th century, used by merchants and settlers to cross the Southwest between Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Santa Fe Trail fell into disuse with the introduction of the railroad.
