Known as "The Center of Good Living," Ocoee, Florida is a city in Orange County, not far from Orlando. Ocoee has a current population of 29,849.
Ocoee, Florida has its origins in health. Dr. J.D. Starke and a group of slaves entered the region in the mid 1850s, sick with malaria and seeking to avoid further sickness. The fresh water of Lake Apopka and clean piney air of Ocoee helped them refind their health, and they built a settlement at the site, originally called Starke Lake. The city eventually changed its name, but the lake retain its label in honor of the man who first brought habitation to Ocoee.

Each fall Ocoee, Florida holds the annual Founders' Day Festival featuring live music, rides, fireworks, food, a fishing tournament and other activities fun for Ocoee families. This light-hearted event attracts more than 20,000 participants each year (most of the town!), and celebrates the day Ocoee was first registered as a formal community and reflects Ocoee's small-town ambiance and friendly attitude.
